This was awful, really spoilt my day, and to find out this in in Uk is disturbing. Such beautiful horses that people would dream to won, but initial purchase hard, keeping is enough. Had to wait years to buy mine, nothing on this earth would ever make me part wth her, eve if we hd to walk the lanes homeless together! Loads of horsey people have said I should breed from her as she is such a quality mare, but I risk her health, and I would HAVE to keep the foal whatever the sex, to ever prevent something as terrible and disgusting ever happening to something I had brought into the world. What's the point in all this overbreeding when there are such lovely animals outthere needing responsible owers.

omg I can't get the image out of my head now and I only managed  the first horse how horrible who in their right mind would do a job like that and go home probably to a family with pets!! they are sick and so are the people who run these kind of places they should be found and shut down.

I've not watched this video and I am not going to, i've seen pictures from animal aid and other charities in the past and I find them to upsetting.  In the articles i've read people sell there horses for cash (up to £500) as they believe the horse will be destroyed humanly and it saves them paying vet bills to have them destroyed.

If your horse is passported there is a part on the passport to agree or disagree to your horse going into the human food chain and any horse intended for human consumption is banned from certain products and medical treatments.

it isnt nice as ive commented before but think of what else could happen to these 'unwanted' horse....Amersham case all over again?

the people doing it arent sick or twisted, theyre doing a job just the same as anyone else; someone carrying out a postmortem, are they sick and wrong?

why should horses be the exception? why is it we can cope with healthy beautiful cows going to the slaughter house to get the same treatment but a pony having it done is just disturbing.

there is a positive and that is these horses in the UK dont have to travel miles and miles to be slaughtered thats what i disagree with!

if slaughter is carried out as humanely as possible then i cant see a problem, id rather a horse be shot than neglected!

This wasn't a link that i clicked on, but judging by the feedback, it probably was horrendous. It does happen, and unfortunately we can't really do alot to stop it. I'm not saying that this is a thing to be ignored, because it is most certainly not, but putting this on a website full of animal lovers, you're only going to get one kind of feedback.

Apart from the fact that cows, sheep, pigs etc are slaughtered for food, what makes horses different ? Okay, alot of people would say you can bond with a horse better, but i once knew a girl who could be aorund cows and they'd follow her around, they're all animals, and they're all part of the food chaine

It's not a good thing at all, and needs to be stopped, to be honest, there may be method in their madness, and i wouldn't mind hearing both sides of the story (not that i think it's right by any stretch of the imagination )

I got to 1.48 and was already in tears, I am stunned that animals are still treated like this in this day and age

I was so terrified, I sent the link to a brave non-horsey friend before I went near it. Although she's completely oblivious to horses, she was shocked and disgusted. As was I, when I finally managed to watch it. I could feel myself welling up when they begin to panic. This is sickening. How could anyone work there? I mean, seriously?

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

That is the cruelest thing I have ever seen... I CANNOT watch any more of it... This is a disgusting display of a human being - it's not even a humane death. That poor, poor horse. You're right, sad isn't even the word, there's nothing to describe this horror :-(

There is a difference between an animal bred to produce meat and one that no longer has a use to it's family. If you believe that God put animals on this Earth, as many do(me included) then you'll know that God said only that man would have power over the animals, he did not order their deaths in order for humans to survive. From a vegetarian point of view of course. It would be like a world leader deciding that because they had the ultimate authority they could eat the rest of us! I'd put up a pretty strong argument for there being a difference in what animals are killed to eat.  Horses never were, and never should be, classed as animals bred for meat. It is only in recent thousands of years that it has become custom in some countries. Cows and other such livestock - have always been used to provide for us.

I know of course it's a very sensitive matter so I won't disgrace anyone else's opinion - because that's all it will ever be I'm afraid, an opinion...

The video says it was taken in the U.S and the Humane Farming Association is an American society.

America does slaughter a huge amount of horses each year, mostly for the meat market - that's why they can't use the lethal injection. I don't understand why they can't use a bolt gun like the UK slaughterhouses though.

If you go on websites such as Yahoo Answers you can normally find questions about the American horse slaughter trade. That's why people are so against "back yard breeding" out there - because they understand that a lot of roughbred youngsters will end up being sold as meat at some point in their life.

Sad but true :(
