Buying a horse advice??

After selling my gelding who I loved, but just was too much for me I have started looking at potential new horses. :-)  Very exciting indeed.

I  am limited to price but have managed to find two that both look and sound perfect.  They meet everything I was hoping for (height/age etc) and look lovely.

I went to see one of them today and she has a lovely calm temprement and a fantastic energetic jump, but she is a bit slow to get going when doing general schooling and naps slightly (not alot) near the gate when you stand her there (but does not nap to it whilst riding).

Do you think this would be a major problem?

I really like here in every other aspect and she fits the bill of what I was wanting...but because Im used to a very forward going, fizzy TB (the reason I sold) I'm not used to having to kick to get a horse working.  Albeit once a jump is up kicking is no longer required.

I have the other to view as well so don't need to make a final decision today, but I was just wanted some opinions.

I am only looking for a happy hacker and occasional local shows/pleasure rides - nothing too exciting or competitive.

It does'nt sound like a major problem to me, but if you want to hack out have you been out hacking with her ? If not then i would defo arrange another viewing and hack her out on the roads and in open countryside etc. when I viewed Tenor I hacked him out twice and we encountered all sorts of things such as bikes, dogs, wheelie bins, lorries and tractors etc. You really need to ride her again before making a decision and do all of the things that you enjoy doing at home.

She didn't nap out hacking, or leaving the yard etc and she didn't nap when riding around the field/school.  It was only once you had ridden her to the fence/gate and stood a second and then asked her to walk back into the field/school to ride more.  She just resisted a little but with only a few kicks/gentle tugs she went...she didn't totally refuse to go.

She seems like a very laid back plodder in the school and then a fizzy, sporty hacker/jumper (suits me).

I'm quite pleased now everyone hasn't said 'stay away'. hehe  I'm going again to view her and spend longer there and do some more, going to take her on a proper hack with other horses to see how she behaves in company.

Re: Buying a horse advice??

when i bought my horse he was perfect in everyway he fitted all my critiria
but he did start to get into bad habbits when i brought him home napping and pulling away when i put his bridle on which one case i let go and he snapped it all which i payed 150 pound for i was not happy
but anyway im not saying if she napps now she will get worst as she only does it when stood at the gate like you said but when my horse started to do this i think it was because he was in a new home new surrounding etc i am used to plods and hes a bit more forward going now and again but ive got used to it now and he knew he could get away with things which now he cant i have put my foot down with him lol
i would view the other one and compere them , and plods can be fast you no youve just got to drive them forward a little bit and get them rearing to go they soon liven up they can be as fast or as slow as you want i love it
