Hi Readers,

I'm so looking forward to answering any of your jumping related questions, so please don't hesitate to  come on line, however small or trivial you think your query might be. If it's important to you, then it's important to me to try to help or clarify anything you need to know if I can.

I shall be here for the next couple of hours, so don't be shy, send your questions and I will do my best to help, even if my typing and spelling skills are poor,

carol

Re: Don't forget Carol's on tomorrow night at 8PM!

Hi Carol,
I’ve a 9yr old, 16.2hh Irish sport horse. I’m having some difficulty with him stretching over fences. He’s a big scopey horse an needs a lot of stretch and sometimes I find I’m not giving him enough head over fences and catching him in the mouth , and this in return is preventing him stretching. Hes not a very forgiving horse an gets a bit stressed when this happens, an then when I try to bring him back after a fence he runs away from my contact. Where as when I release the contact to a loose rein he slows right down. That’s what I have been trying to do in schooling sessions, just allowing him to run on with a loose rein so he knows there is nothing to run away from. But when were jumping a full course at shows I need to be able to get him back quicker between fences as he can be quiet strong, but I don’t want to be yanking him in the mouth with him fighting me, so any help greatly appreciated! I also find it hard to give him enough stretch over fences without me catapulting my upper body forward too much and unbalancing him.

Good evening Carol,

Sorry, my post's gone without the questions!

First thing:
I have a 5yo who is coming back to work from the "rest" after his head flap sergery (sinus).  At the moment, I am only trying to get him used to work under the saddle again but I'm quite keen to re-introduce jumping exercises - I'm aiming to make him a SJ-er.
I understand from Your Horse mag that you do a lot of gridwork.  What sort of gridwork would you recommend for my 5yo?

Thank you!
