My horse has small itchy lumps all over his body, but mainly on his neck. I've had the vet out to him who said it was more than likely he'd had a reaction to something and gave him a shot of steroids to ease the itching. This worked for a couple of weeks, but i've noticed my horse has started...

Check It's not the feed you are giving  as i think i know what your are on about.

Are they like small fleshy/hard lumps under the skin about the size of a 5p bit?

another good idea would be to wash all numnas and rugs and even change brands of things you use on them.

A good thing to help the itching is camrosa It works well for my cob who has sweet itch. it's good value for money trust me:)  Avon stuff is really good for itching too. good luck and tell me how you get on

Is your horse stabled?

my pony had to come in before Christmas as she went lame, i put 2 new bales of wood shaving in about 12pm and 3 hours later, she was covered in hives, lumps as big as tennis balls which oozed & turned into very itchy sores!

she was trying to get as far away from the bed as soon as i put it down; she's had this same reaction to straw before now, but a lot is due to stress with her.

some of our horses get hives-and if it doesn't look bad we just leave it and it comes right in a few hours/overnight

I have the exact same problem... its really wierd. we've been to the vet three times! first and second time they gave her an injection for mites, it worked for about two weeks each time, the third time they gave me a wash to use, but didnt get round to using it because it cleared up. we swapped her haylage for hay and shavings for straw, we also stopped putting her rug on.. dont know which of these worked but she stopped for about 4 months and shes started itching again. I'm using the wash that the vet gave us and it seems to be helping... although it's a real pain, bald patches aren't a good look for her!!

hope that helps a bit :D

Two of my horses have had sore itchy spots like a nettle rash that oozed a clear liquid. They both ended up with bald patches. It turned out they were both allergic to garlic. I have to check every feed bag and supplement carefully as lots of these contain garlic and even the smallest amount brings out the lumps within hours.

Our horses have these itchy bumps too. Mostly around the neck. It started with just one horse having it, then another one, now a third is breaking out. We have seen the vet and gottent he wash, it didn't work. We had another vet out who gave them injections. Those haven't worked. We are at a loss of what to do next! We have 6 horses and have to find out what is causing this. They scratch until they bleed. I feel so bad for them....

When I first got my new horse, she came up with lots of small lumps over her neck - hives. Or urticaria. It went down after 3 weeks of TLC ;)
