I am after advice again please! I have been part loaning a 13 yr old 16.1 gelding for about 6 months and he is an absolute sweetie. However it's the ridden work that has issues. He paces in trot - but this is much improved since schooling, polework, lunging. recently we have attempted canter - only when he feels right - if that makes sense. this feels understandably a little weird as his legs get confused. Afterwards he gets very excited and then cannot seem to trot on the diagonal, it's back to pacing. He is slightly unbalanced on both reins. His head goes up, my hands go up and we are then all over the place. And all whilst being ridden he smacks his bottom lip in a rhythmic one second fashion. He has a french link snaffle, has his back & teeth checked regularly. I am not sure whether we have the wrong bit, (should we go bitless?) we should be doing certain things when schooling, or carry on as we are (as i say he is so much improved) & the lip smacking is a quirky part of his nature. Any ideas? thanks
