I have a 6yr Mare, Irish Sports Horse. Through the winter she works well and is responsive and forward going. She is out through the day and in at night in the winter. The problem is in the spring/summer when she is turned out onto the spring grass. She develops a bit of a grass belly and becomes quite lazy...

Could you fence her field off so she doesnt have too much to eat? Or get her a grazing muzzle. This used to be a problem with my gelding, but now hes paddocked hes just as forward and responsive in the summer as in the winter. She probally just feels bloated and a little but urgh. Imagine running round after eating a HUGE roast dinner!

Turks... The one who stole my heart the second i laid eyes on him, the one i so nearly lost, the one who i will trust and treasure for as long as can, the one i couldn't live without...

If anything i thought she'd be more fizzy! Any suggestions would be good as i find that riding her at the moment is a tad frustrating!

the same thing happened to my mare, i keep her in during the day in the summer and put her out at night as she gets really bloated, if you ca't do that then a muzzle would probably be a good idea!

If you can, get a friend or yard staff (or if you have time, then you!!) to bring her in a few hours before you ride to let her "deflate" her grass belly a bit before you get on to ride her! :) If not, a grazing muzzle sounds like a good idea.
