How do you find out which beaches you can ride on?

I have never been to the beach on my Horses, and i wondered how do you find out which beaches you can ride on that are closest to home? ( i have that people on here are lucky enough to have ridden on the beach)

Is there a website or something to look on or do i have to just find the closest beaaches and contact the local councils there or something?

Thanks

Well in Guernsey we can ride on any beach we want. But in the summer months, which i think is May-September or something like that, horses are only aloud on the beach before 10am (i think) and after 7pm. But in the winter we can go whenever, and we still have the common to play on :-) Just make sure there is easy access onto the beach, ie a slipway. Not just steps lol. xx

your deffo right about time restrictions this time of year Racheal. I expect it may vary slightly though. I just typed the name of a local beach and researched sites on the net untill I found what I needed. How about ringing a local-to-the-beach riding school/trekking centre for advice? Or a local news website?

Im in the midlands too. I think the nearest beach to me is western super mare... i don't know if we can ride on this tho! not had time to look for any others yet, but the idea of contacting the localist pony trekking companies who ride to the beach sounds like our best bet!

Ive ridden on a lovely long beach at wells next the sea and ive been lucky enough to go 4 times. We always start at wells then ride along onto Holcolm (not spelt right) beach which literally joins on. its great down there cos even if the first part is packed most of it is deserted and the whole beach is about 4 miles long i think, also when the tide is out you cant even see the sea so there's loads of space. There are good estuary's (again not spelt right) as well which you can ride through and if you're on a pony you can swim them. The kings troop take there horses down there for a holiday every year and swim them in the sea bare back. There are a few places you can keep your horses and most offer a place to pitch a tent as well, im sure if you googled Holcolm it would come up with info. Other then that im not sure on other beaches. x

Im close to weston super mare and you can ride on it (if tide is out) but you have to be off the beach in the summer by 9am and you cant get back on it until 8pm this is from Good Fri until the first weekend in Oct. its ok you have to keep your eyes to the floor and you cant ride close or in the sea due to quick sand but if you go along the channel a bit to North Devon where its a bit safer

Boyfriends come and go but my Arabs are for life

For the two of you in the midlands, I know alot of people head my way to the beach (east anglia) as apparantly its one of the closest areas with beaches. They use the a47 from leicester if that helps. I always seem to be getting stuck in the traffic for the beaches in norfolk. I am not sure which ons you can take horses on, I guess you could ask the county council and they could tell you. Hope that helps slightly.

i know that on Lancing beach on the south coast you cant ride between 7AM and 7PM APRIL TO OCTOBER.   Other than that its ok. But then the tide is only out at certain times so is still hard to ride on the beach.....At least we have the south downs!!
