Having just read the article "Please help, should I keep riding this horse" I feel like I really need to put this out there. Does anyone else feel that owning a horse should be like driving a car in that you should have to pass at least some sort of  test before you're allowed one?!! I'm not talking about anything really intense, but surely people should know basics about feed, exercise, conformation and disease etc?!

Maybe a license - i think you should have to apply for one to keep animals anyway. I keep my horse at a friends place and there are 3 of us, now i know we all have a good working knowledge i.e how to bandage basic first aid grooming. So i dont have a yard manager to ask for advice, i am lucky in that my farrier lives in the same village and i have a good relationship with the local yard but i make the most of helplines like feed advice out of hours vet advice if i ever get stuck - or this forum :)

When people at work ask me about my horse, most say ooohh im scared of horses and i say you shouldnt be scared but you should treat them with a massive amount of respect.  Some people think buying a horse is as easy as i turn up groom ride feed and go home then when reality strikes they hide from the responsibility and you end up with these once beautiful creatures in pain and mistreated.

Anyway i digress but it really upsets me there is absolutely no need for animals to end up bags of bones - even poorly ones.

i saw a woman at a yard i was at once (i never spoke to her; or, she never spoke to me...think it was a team effort between us actually not to talk to each other) and she had a horse that had to be rugged up all year round....the horse was a cob....and, surprisingly enough, developed fungal infections along the back due to the sweaty, humid conditions produced....she was worried but when told, 'it's cause of your good damn rugs,' she told us we were all wrong and continued to rug the horse! what a brainless fud....

we had a kid once who's parents bort her a pony (they were non horsey) after 3 lessons and a walkout, she taught hersefl to ride without a leadrein, only used a stick for aids, and then complained when it refused jumps with her, i got on (i was the lightest, it was only 12.1) and it flew over 3 foot 3 spreads coz i sat up and drove with my legs and seat. she ended up kicked off afert being caught in the arena lashing her pony with a lunge whip, still dont know why?!?

 

I think every1 should work in a riding school 1st, teaches u more than any books can!!!

I just want to say that the original post on the horse you refer to seems to have been posted by a Troll, and not by the owner of the horse.  There are some posters out there that are determined to follow this girl around the internet - its like a real witch hunt, and you will find references to it on virtually every horse forum you come accross (we had a fair bit of problem on ours). 

The horse posted is not a riding horse now and was thin then for a reason - the other ponies in the background were all tubby,,,.  So the 'pelly' on here, is not the original pelly who owns it.   That Pelly did upset some people on another forum and although I am not going to comment about her posts (her sister is on the Paddocks, not pelly) and whether people were upset for a reason, what I will say is that these poeple really need to let it go now as the attack is vicious. 

I dont know if that makes sense but I just want to explain that not all you see on the internet is true to life, or the full story.  If you are one of those people who is hounding this girl, dont you think its time to stop? Why dont you put that welfare effort into volunteering at your local rescue centre if you are SO concerned?!

I am sorry ceej but re the above. pelly posted a video on youtube of a girl riding flashy around a jumping course this August .She also said that she had joined in on the last 15km of an endurance ride in August etc etc.

Sounds like someone has started a rumour and pretended to be this Pelly person so she gets a bad name.  Someone with a grudge or something like that.  Bit nasty if it is the case
