bless i hope you are going okay now, only i sufferd from flash backs, is that normal does any one know? how was he when you got back on him? hope he was ok for you, so do you hack out now then? i went out on bobby last week, but i am suposed to be going out on a hack saturday morning with the person who has got guiness, ( a big cob ) i hoope it will go okay. i dont blame him for spooking but i just wish i knew why my old horse did it, i feel guilty for selling him, but i couldnt bare to look at him, thats bad.

but my new pony like i say i am going out on him on saturday morning and i hope it goes ok.

of course this is normal, I had the same problem but i went out with someone i compltley trusted and who was very confident, once happy with that i progressed to riding out with my dad walking alongside. Now i can successfully hack out on my own!! yes i get nerves but i can control them...it takes patience but this way worke for me :)

thank you all so very much for your suport, it means alot to me to know that i have always got people to help me . thank you, i am still having flash backs though, and i dont know how to help them stop, has any one got any advice, that can help me stop having them? because it makes me cry and then i am embaresed. i am getting better with trusting my pony on the road, he now doesnt really spook at any thing much, wich i am pleased about, the only thing that is upseting me is the flash back,

i realy cant take any more of them!

You might want to visit a psychologist. This is obviously a psychological problem, and even though I personally hate psychologists I know a lot of people who were helped by them. He's probably gonna ask you about the accident and the flashbacks, when you get them, how often, what you are scared of and he's gonna give you a lot of useful advice and hopefully the flashbacks will stop :)

I hit my face on a tree during a hack at 20km/h and mind you, not the branch, the trunk and merely got a concussion! I am the master of the masters :D

Oh dear. I fell off Sinbad when i first got him and i was really spooked. i got back on though but i had lost STACKS off confidence. he began sensing my worry and bolted loads. I have been taking it slowly and we are building a bond. now i am back to my usual self. remember time is a gr8 healer. The flashbacks.. hmmmm maybe, like what candycanegirl said, you should visit a psycholigist.

i have been going on a hack with a horse at my yard but the thing is that the  horse has got really spooky and i think it is effecting bobby, because if he jumps then bobby will jump too :(

but i darent tell the women who owens guiness because shes been so good to me, but i would love for bobby to go out on the roads with a safe horse..i hope that didnt sound to cruel?

but also the women with guiness has booked a holiday to go to nolfork for 1 week and i am not ready for that! i have been worrying so much!

but about the flash backs, i have been seeing a psycholigist and they have been going but now ever scince bobby has been spooking with guiness it has set them off again!! i feel really stupid about them and i feel its not normal...

I used to have a young mare that I hated hacking out, and in the end I realised she wasn't the problem, it was me.
So I asked a friend with more confidence than myself to hack her out with me walking alongside past all sorts of scary objects. When I realised that none of these things actually bothered her, and it was me that was the cause of all worries, I finally began to relax... now, although she has been sold to a friend, she's a happy hacker!

If you trust your pony, but you think its you, why not let a friend hack your pony out, and realise that you can trust him or her? I've found that helps a lot, though its not always an ideal solution.

I kind of know how you feel. I've never had an accident *touch wood* as one of my boys (my first ever horse, whom I still own and love to bits) is perfect in every way, but my new boy is as spooky and ridiculous as anything! The first time we hacked out he actually scared the hell out of me, and I'm a very confident rider with 20 years of experience behind me. He's also a 23yr old so has no exucse of 'babyness' etc, he's just a big woos! Anyway, moral of the sotry is, stick at it, and try your best not to tense up as because Bobby is young this will worry him, he'll think there's something to be scdared of because you're scared and will try to run from it. Just try to relax, as everyone has said talking and singing works, concentrate on anything but the possibility of spooking, and most of all, keep at it, you WILL get there :-)

thanks for your advice, i am planning to hack him out tomorrow down some quite roads..i will think positivlety and try and relax.

i find singing does help him :). i am just not sure about that horse guiness because the owner wants me to hack out with her, but the thing is..she lets him eat grass and yesterday she fell off because while he was eating something spooked him..i think it was a dog!

but she said it wasnt her fault.but i dont know what to say to her :( she says there both as good as gold..i mean bobby behaves better that guiness in some ways but if one horse spooks the other one does.. its not helping me but i dont know what to do :(

i understand bobby is young he can get spooked but thats at a digger or something

i do trust him loads but i have got to work on relaxing with him, i love him loads, he means the world to me

Hiya sorry to hear about what happened & good on you for still wanting to hack out on your new horse (I think if it was me I'd've declared that I was never going on a hack again, but I'm a ridiculously nervous person) I know I struggle to relax when I come across hgvs & buses & the like cos I know smartie's going to spook ... the most he usually does is jump sideways onto the pavement (though he did once drag me down a ditch & then decided to re-emerge right in front of a car... thank god the driver had seen what happened & had the common sense to wait) But anyway this post's not supposed to be about me & my near misses is it? I think, like you said it'd help you & bobby if you could find someone with a totally bombproof horse to hack with, but I also understand you don't want to hurt the feelings of guiness's owner. Is there anyone who would be willing to hack out with both of you (you could just kinda casually ask "oh so so wondered if they could hack out with us as well you don't mind do you?") It'd prob be a good idea for guiness to have a confident horse there for reassurance as well . Good luck anyway hope you can manage to find a solution of sorts, eventually you'll get thru this & your relationship with bobby, which already sounds amazing already, will be even better for it.

Oh yeah I think you did do the right thing letting your old horse go, if you didn't know what triggered him bolting with you like that then it was a dangerous situation, which could've had disasterous consequences. You're bound to feel a bit guilty about it, you're only human
 

Correction does much for the horse, but encouragement does more - Unknown
