Won't let me groom him

my cob gelding bite me Monday night in the thigh I was standing beside him and brushing his mane - which I've always done - it was a nasty bite.

The vet was due anyway (for another horse) and I mentioned it and he said that his skin would be irritating him with the heat - so he gave him a shot, now he's become extremely aggressive lunging at me trying to bite when I attempt to go near him with a brush.

So i'm gonna stop trying to brush him.  I was gonna take him into livery for the summer they have great facilities - but  now if he's biting - should I still take him.

Anyone any view.

Re: Won't let me groom him

Do you ride every time you groom him? He may be a bit more sensitive in the summer as his coat is finer. Instead of using a brush why not use a fleece mitt with a hessian( cactus) back to it. The soft side will get rid of the dust, and the other side does move dried on mud. Itt would be softer. Has he just started doing this and how long have you had him? sorry for the questions. xx

Re: Won't let me groom him

he's a 15yr old ex riding school heavy cob - we hack and spend summers at livery where we school and hack and i've had him three years and no problems at all.  Me I've been involved with horses for @ 5 years - still a novice but he was super safe, and perfect for me

I was using the furminater to groom him and it may have irritated him and he could have been  trying to tell me and I wasn't listening so he bite me.

this problem is too much for me to handle - gotta get help.  The vet's coming back on Saturday and gonna do a 'MOT'  Something is wrong and I can't  see it

No livery for us this summer
