Sarcoids, & Liverpool Cream

My horse has been diagnosed as having a sarcoid and Liverpool Cream has been recommended as the treatment, the Vets sent a letter saying sedation may be required to apply the cream! Can anyone who has treated their horse etc with liverpool Cream tell me about their experiances with this treatment, were the horse bothered by the application of the cream? did they need sadation? Would you use it again? How many times was it applied? and anything else which will help me decide to use this as a treatment and what to expect, (my horse hates needles and is a nigthmare to sedate, so if sedation is the usual i am hesitating, as i am worried of stress setting his laminitus off!) Help! what can i expect with this treatment?

HI see my post "warts and all"- currently having this dilemma but my vet never mentioned sedation so maybe you have a nervy vet (wouldnt be the first time a vet sedated because they were timid!) Are they a pet vet- if so ask them to recommend a horse vet. regards

Re: Sarcoids, & Liverpool Cream

Hi, Check back several pages and look out for previous posts re: sarcoids. When I bought AJ he had had one on his face which was originally treated wit L'pool cream and then successfully removed with cryosurgery. Before I bought him I e-mailed Prof Derek Knottenbelt in L'pool for information and he replied personally with excellent advice. I was really surprised and here is his reply: "I never trust the disease and it is certainly true that many recur but it should be possible to keep on top of small lesions at easy sites. The problem is that a horse with one lesion is of course by definition liable to the disease and genetically it means that more sarcoids are more likely rather than less likely. That said you should not condemn a horse outright on the basis of a sarcoid - you have to consider the whole package and you have to know what the true implications are. More may develop (or they may not!!), you may wish / need to sell the horse and that may be problematic in the future, insurance won't cover this disease. There will be an implication for management and for management of any wounds etc that the horse has. Fly control will need to be good! I know lots of horses with small sarcoids that have become famous for all the right reasons but I have known some that have deteriorated badly (only a few) if the owners are not focussed on the need to keep them under control when they are small. I hope this helps ... sorry again for the ridiculously slow reply! D" His e-mail address is: knotty@liverpool.ac.uk I'm sure he would be happy to help Zxx

Re: Sarcoids, & Liverpool Cream

I had my mare treated with liverpool cream about 3 years ago, it was very effective, the srcoids went but there was only a little scar left. But last year have returned in the same places and other places, so it hasn't really worked with my mare, but it works very well in some cases.

Re: Sarcoids, & Liverpool Cream

my horse has sarcoides

i bought him 3 months ago - i knew before i bought him he had sarcoides, he has a hole in his ear from a previous sarcoide that had dropped out with the use of lpool cream so he has a holey ear lol

but he has a further sarcoide delveloping under the hole which im trying to sort out

i did alot of research on sarcoide before i bought my horse so i knew what i was going into

as soon as i got him home i put him on sarc ex which cost me £19.00 for a 1kg tub that i add 1 scoop to morning and night feed, i also applie thuja cream which i bought of the net for £18.00

the lumps has now changed colour and seems to be gettin brittle and crumbling

i also read that stress can add to the lumpos growing as well as flys

i have looked into puting a summer sheet on and a fly mask in summer as if a sarcoide develope on the face or eye it can be harder and more expensive to treat

i hope this helps x
